Two children as young as nine and six were forcibly separated from their mother by a rogue bus crew with their dangerous and aggressive driving tactics in order to compete with other private bus operators.

The mother had stepped off the bus at her destination, but the rogue bus crew did not give her children enough time to get down and started moving, leaving the mother screaming and crying without her children at the bus stop.  The mother had to chase the bus in an auto to the next bus stop to get back her children who were traumatised by the incident.

These are one of the many stories of incidents involving reckless and dangerous bus crew with no preemptive  police action.

Time and time again Kochi Traffic Police and Kerala MVD have failed in controlling the rowdy behaviour and dangerous rogue bus operators domineering road traffic of Kochi putting lives at risk.  Repeatedly, Kochi Traffic Police has been called out by the public, commuters and the Kerala High Court for failing in its duty to bring rogue bus operators under control and within laws of the road. 

The Kerala high court had previously chastised private bus drivers for their abhorrent stance that action not be taken against them even if they drive recklessly and kill people. The last incident involving a speeding bus driver had taken the life of a two-wheeler driver who was mowed down at a prominent traffic junction in the city.

Lives have been lost, not once, but again and again. Commuters have been left debilitated by the reckless rogues. Drivers of other vehicles sharing the spaces with these reckless rogue bus operators have been threatened by knife wielding bus crew. Commuters have been abused and assaulted, again and again. 

They wield the beastliness of the bus itself like a weapon against fellow commuters, bullying other traffic with brutal force yielding other commuters into submission.

These tactics force citizens to suspect Kochi Traffic Police and its intentions when it comes to applying rules and laws with fairness and equality. How many more lives need to be lost before they wake up.

The alarming incidents involving rogue bus operators in Kochi demand urgent attention and action from the authorities, particularly the Kochi Traffic Police and government representatives. The safety and well-being of citizens are at stake as reckless bus crews continue to jeopardise lives with their dangerous driving tactics.

The repeated failure of the Kochi Traffic Police and Kerala MVD to address these issues raises concerns about the efficacy of current enforcement measures. The judiciary, through the Kerala High Court, has already highlighted the need for stringent action against reckless bus drivers, emphasising the potential loss of innocent lives.

The citizens of Kochi deserve a transportation system that prioritises safety and adheres to the rule of law. It is time for the authorities to take decisive action and implement stricter regulations.

Lives have been lost, families traumatised, and commuters left vulnerable for far too long – the time for change is now.
